Just back from Belgium where I witnessed the first two one-day races of the calendar, Omloop and KBK. As someone who's been going to Belgium for cycling events for the past decade, I'm always amazed at the cycling culture there.
One of the great examples is the temporary cycle park set up in the town. It allows riders to drop off their bikes and walk to the start without the need for locks or 'racers' (road bikes). Take a look at the photo, what don't you see?
It's a pipe dream to see this type of cycling culture in the UK, even at events like the Tour de France start, the Olympics, and the Tour of Britain. .

Iconic perhaps.
The London Eye, Sanatnder (Boris bikes), the red of London from the buses and the London Transport 'roundel' are usually associated with the underground.
